Designed by NKY, first public hospital to be LEED Gold certified

Reconstructed by Istanbul Project Coordination Unit (IPCU) under Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation Project (ISMEP), Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital becomes the first hospital in the World to receive both LEED Gold and EDGE certificates.

LEED certification, issued by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the World’s leading accreditation system for environmental design. Meeting various requirements under water efficiency, energy efficiency, sustainability, indoor air quality, innovation in design and regional measures; Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital has been awarded LEED Gold certification.

Additionally, Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital was also the recipient of EDGE certification issued by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a subsidiary of the World Bank Group (WBG); due to its achievements in energy and water efficiency.

Kartal Hospital, which has a bed count of 1.100 and a built-up area of over 300.000 square-meters, was built using seismic isolator technology to provide uninterrupted service after the unlikely event of an earthquake.
