An “Urban Resilience Project (URP)” has been established by the World Bank to support the Government of Bangladesh in its activities towards a more resilient urban environment in terms of planning, disaster preparedness and institutional capacity. This specific assignment is Component B1 of the URP and aims at achieving a more earthquake resilient Bangladesh.
The overall objective of this World Bank funded assignment is to develop the consensus-driven analytical foundation required for longer-term investments to reduce risk in the built environment of Dhaka. It will concentrate on the assessment of the vulnerability and risk of around 5 million square-meters of construction area in greater Dhaka to earthquakes and floods, and development of a prioritized list of retrofitting and rehabilitation investments to strengthen 4.000 critical public assets like hospitals, schools, fire stations, etc.
