The project for Başkent Electricity Company in Ankara, Turkey, aims to create a general management headquarters that includes a Headquarters (H), Regional Directorate (RD), SCADA Control Centre (SCC), and common areas. These functions are divided into three blocks: Technical Office Block, SCADA Office Block, and Gasometer Block. The site has historical significance, being the former location of the Maltepe Gas and Electric Factory. The design incorporates elements of this history, such as the gasometer and railroad tracks, to maintain a connection with the past.
The design process focuses on functional requirements, ensuring proper placement and connections of the blocks. An elevated platform links the blocks and facilitates circulation across different levels. The gasometer structure has been repurposed and integrated into the new design, providing a focal point and welcoming expression towards the main boulevard. The relationship between the blocks is enhanced with an orange façade element, creating sheltered entrances and reinforcing the historical-modern blend.
The landscape design transforms the elevated platform into a recreational space, with shaded areas and designated parking. The project’s location near Kızılay, Ankara’s city centre, ensures strategic access to public transportation and surrounding commercial zones. The design harmonizes with neighbouring buildings, maintaining a human scale and contextual unity. The project honours the historical significance of the site while meeting modern functional and aesthetic requirements.
